The By George! group is a loose association of illustrators and cartoonists who meet approximately once a month to share notes, learn from one another and enjoy each other's company in honor of the late Charlotte Observer cartoonist and National Cartoonist Society president George Breisacher.

The By George group meeting at Wild Wing Cafe was an astounding two people strong! Yes, Drizzling Dave McDonald and Soaking Steve Smith braved the harsh elements and made quite a dent in the menu. Let's just say that there is now a herd of chickens somewhere in south Charlotte running around with no wings!

The hustle and bustle of the season combined with the relentless rain surely kept even the hardiest of souls from attending; but not these two knuckleheads!

Smith showed off the now completed Captain Samsonite Halloween issue. These books are funny, folks! He needs to get these things in the airports across the country. Perhaps he could produce a version for employees of the airports and one for the patrons.

This edition was so "shocking" that it even came with its own barf bag, complete with a custom image of a very queasy "Carry On Kid" right on the bag! See what you missed?

McDonald discussed finishing up the rough pencils for his 16-page educational comic, which is being published by a South Carolina company for the school market.

And now, this: The thought process involved in moving our meetings to the evening slot was to try and get more people in attendance ... however, that hasn't really proven to be the case for the last two meetings. Hopefully, this means that all of you are so busy working, that you have no time! This would be a great reason to miss out, given the state of the economy.

So, it is rumored that we will most likely go back to our last Monday of the month lunchtime slot; at least for January. Feel free to make suggestions that may make it easier for you to attend!

Merry Christmas, all, and Happy New Year!
