April 2008
The April meeting of the By George! group was attended by four fabulous funsters: Dave McDonald, Brian Leonard, and Bill Pitzer who brought along fellow Charlotte Observer illustrator Jason Whitley.
Once again, the coterie of cartoonists cantered next door to Crisp for lunch because it was "raining Garfields and Snoopys" as McDonald said.
Pitzer brought some of the new GeoWeek features that he writes and illustrates for the New York Times Syndicate. He said some of his work was hand-drawn and some was done in Adobe Illustrator.
McDonald announced that he would be exhibiting his "Hamster Sam" comic at this summer's Heroes Convention. He will at the Kids Love Comics table.
"Hamster Sam" is now available at Park Road Books in Charlotte.
Leonard brought another mini-comic to hand out. This one was titled "Monster Tiff."
Whitley used to do a strip called "Sea Urchins" that ran in the Myrtle Beach Sun News. He is currently working on a Sea Urchins graphic novel.
Archived copies of his comic strip can be seen on Seaurchins.net. A panel from one of the strips is shown to the left.
No group photo was taken this time. The guys were just so handsome, they thought they might break the camera.
The last Monday of May is Memorial Day, so the next By George! meeting may be on Tuesday the 27th. Stay tuned for more details.
