March 2009
Three cartoonists met at Heroes Aren't Hard to Find for the March meeting. Present were Andy (the Stimulus) Smith, Jack (Champagne) Chapman and Greg (Recession-proof) Russell.
They went across the street to Showmar's for lunch, and Smith handed out copies of the third issue of John Read's "Stay Tooned! Magazine." Read had sent them to the group because member Jim Scancarelli was interviewed and mentioned George Breisacher.
Smith also talked about his radio show "The Not So Better Half Show" and showed copies of his "Nevermore" artwork. To the right is a colored page from the first issue.
Russell announced that he had recently bought a Wacom tablet. He was inspired by Mark Wheatley's demo video on his Facebook page. You can also find the video in the middle of his interview with Ain't It Cool News.
The three chatted about "Lost," "Heroes," "The Watchmen" and electric cars.
Chapman shared a comic he made based on a true story. He also talked about his home in Memphis and his move to the Charlotte area.
And we just have to plug the artwork of one Dustin Harbin, multi-talented and long-tenured employee of Heroes Aren't Hard to Find. We just discovered his comic strips and panels on his blog site and had to share them with you. An example of his work is above.
It was a short and sweet meeting. Hopefully, we'll see more of you in April. Until then, stay solvent!
