February 2008
The February meeting saw another record crowd -- a grand total of eight artists extraordinaire!
Among them were "Big" Al Bigley, "Totally" Tom Haines, Brian "Brainiac" Leonard, "Handy" Andy Smith, "Stupefyin'" Steve Smith, "Jumpin'' Jack Chapman, "Beautiful" Bill Pitzer and "Dandy" Dave McDonald.
They met at Heroes Aren't Hard to Find and walked across the street to Showmars. There were so many people at the table, there were always two or three conversations going on at the same time.
Nearly everyone brought something to show. Bigley had his Batman trading cards and stunning color pages from his Food Lion project.
Chapman had a couple of very funny editorial cartoons that he had drawn for the Desoto Times Today.
Bill Pitzer brought in recent illustrations he created for The Charlotte Observer. One was a full page step-by-step graphic showing how chicken is processed in a meat factory. To the right is his illustration of the effects of repetitive cutting on a worker's hand.
Brian Leonard passed out another "Monster" and "Subtoid" strip for some good laughs.
Steve Smith had another issue of "Captain Samsonite" hot off the press.
And Dave McDonald brought copies of the first issue (of many to come) of "Hamster Sam."
It was like a cartoonist flea market with books and pages being handed back and forth across the table.
