January 2006After skipping the months of November and December due to the usual holiday obligations, the group reconvened in the Hallowed Halls of Heroes Aren't Hard to Find on Monday, January 30. The talented troupe trekked over twenty feet of treacherous terrain to Schlotzsky's Deli. There, we plopped ourselves down for a very informal but delightful get-together.
There were no presentations this time, but Dave McDonald had copies of the comic "Blaze Adventures" that he wrote, illustrated and produced for the Charlotte/Mecklenburg Fire Department. He also passed out pencils and info cards from the Vernon Grant Gallery at the Museum of York County. Apparently, ol' Vernon was just a life-size puppet that Dave had created. We all wept a tear as Tom Haines told us about his Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. No kidding. You have to hear it to believe it. Tom, I have a personal joke just for you right here.
Also, Andy Smith explained what brought him and his wife to our fair city. He also told us how he got started in the comic book business. To learn more, you'll have to ask him or buy his book "Drawing Dynamic Comics," which you can also buy HERE. He said he's also planning an instructional DVD, which we are all eager to see. The photo below was taken by Handy Todd Harlan. From left to right are moi Greg Russell, Brian Leonard, Tom (hardy-har-har) Haines, Andy (snikt!) Smith and Dave (I smell smoke) McDonald.
The next meeting will be at 11:30, Monday, February 27 at Hereos.
